    Medium Open Fronted Box

    • designed to cater for the needs of both blackbird and song thrush

    • same height as the small open box with an increase in width and depth to cater for these larger birds

Many birds including the robin, wren, blackbird and thrush prefer open fronted boxes as opposed to those with a small entrance hole. The main threat to this type of nest box is the danger from predators and the easy access to the nest site. Except for the wagtail and flycatcher, all open fronted boxes should be well hidden, typically in thick undergrowth.

Tip: to further deter predators wrap the box in a "ball" of chicken wire.
