Can I scatter the seeds over existing grass to create a floral meadow?

We’re afraid not! - the seeds have to be sown into cultivated soil. Whether sowing annual only, or annual/perennial mixtures, there is no substitute for good soil preparation. Download our ‘consumer technical guide’ pdf

When establishing wildflowers in grassy meadows, care should be taken to heavily scarify and clear the area, and where grass is vigorous sow fresh Yellow Rattle seed in autumn.

This is the first attempt at growing a meadow garden. Just a small area to see if it works. I am so pleased with the result I am going to make the whole area into a flower meadow. I am more impressed on how it has grown on very poor soil. Annette Moore
